Manovich (in Software Takes Command) argues that digital media has brought about a number of “media-independant techniques” in which he identifies them as “searchability, findability, linkability”. It could also be argued that interactability is a further technique in which should be included. The reasoning for this is that its become common place for users to be able to not only interact with media physically (for example using touch screens to enlarge a piece of text). They have now been given the ability to comment, subscribe and be able to influence media. We have become so used to this, that it is expected of every device to have interactive features, such as socially, by sharing files or linking up profiles on different applications.
